School of Satoshi aims to organize online & physical Bitcoin education classes based on the Bitcoin Diploma curriculum in the most commonly spoken local language.
Location:
Our project aims to be the education arm of Bitcoin Kampala, Uganda and commenced on 19th June, 2024.
See first cohort announcement here.
The primary challenges our community faces include:
Language Barrier:
A significant portion of the population that would highly benefit from Bitcoin speaks & understands Luganda, and there is a scarcity of educational resources about Bitcoin in this language.
Knowledge Gaps:
Many community members have adopted Bitcoin out of excitement and fear of missing out, without a deep understanding of its principles and benefits.
Inconsistent Learning Platforms:
While there are efforts like Trezor Academies, meetups, and WhatsApp groups, these are not consistent and structured enough to provide continuous education.
Bitcoin can empower our community by providing:
Financial Inclusion: Offering a permissionless financial system that is accessible to everyone unlike what was recently rolled out that limits access to financial services based on identity, the central bank decreed this recently.
Economic Stability: Allowing individuals to hedge against local currency inflation, we understand Bitcoin allows us to exit the economy without exiting the country.
Bitcoin is the best savings account that enables owners to fully control everything.
Education and Growth: Enabling community members to understand and leverage Bitcoin for economic opportunities in their businesses, studies and social groups. We already have savings Clans within the community based off of Machankura and when the group achieves 1M sats, the sats are sent to a multisig wallet.
Our inspiration stems from the realization of the profound knowledge gaps and language barriers that hinder the effective adoption and use of Bitcoin. The excitement and fear of missing out have driven initial adoption, but sustainable growth requires a deep understanding. Just as My First Bitcoin Diploma supports the multiple circular economies around the world, we will follow their footsteps in Bitcoin adoption in Uganda.
Angella (School of Satoshi), identified these issues and initiated a structured educational platform to address them, as Bitcoin Kampala we immediately welcomed the idea.
Our vision is to establish a robust Bitcoin education program that provides consistent and comprehensive learning opportunities in Luganda & English where necessary. We aim to educate the community through the Bitcoin Diploma curriculum and solidify the progress we have made in Bitcoin adoption.
Steps and Goals:
1. Develop and Implement 7 week Cohort-Based Programs:
Based on the Bitcoin Diploma curriculum which is already translated into Luganda, we will have weekly online sessions attracting multiple guest tutors to share about Bitcoin and its local applicability.
2. Organize Physical Classes: Conduct physical meetups focusing on self-custody.
3. Empower Local Educators: Train and support tutors who are fluent in Luganda and knowledgeable about Bitcoin.
