Orphans of Uganda Children Center (OUCC) in Bugiri District is more than an orphanage; it is a family. Founded in 2009 and now guided by former resident Isma Byarugaba, the home nourishes, educates, and protects 77 children every day.
In 2023 the Bitcoin Kampala community welcomed OUCC into the Bitcoin economy through the Fruits-for-Sats initiative, and a year later rallied again to save Starlight School.
Early in 2025 Ray Youssef, CEO of the peer-to-peer platform NoOnes, donated 1 BTC, laying the foundation for a new home for these children.
Now, with support from Bitcoin Kampala and Praia Bitcoin Brazil, we are running crowdfunding campaigns on Bitcoin Economy Confederation and Geyser.fund to bring this project to completion.
Your sats are becoming bricks; help us lay the next one.
The children still sleep in temporary huts. The roof, doors, windows, plumbing, wiring and furnishings remain unfinished. Daily costs for food, healthcare and utilities continue while construction is underway.
Finish the house by raising the final 1.5 BTC. Every sat moves bricks, beams and hope into place.
In 2009 local teacher Lady Fatimah Kagoya opened her humble home to a handful of orphaned children in Bugiri. As the family grew, former resident Isma Byarugaba returned in 2012 to lead daily care. For years the kids slept in timber sheds – until 2023, when Bitcoin Kampala connected the center to Lightning and launched the Fruits for Sats program. Two year later, that spark of financial inclusion planted the bigger dream: a permanent brick home built one sat at a time.
